Nationwide to Locate National Claim Call Center in San Antonio

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Nationwide Insurance, one of the country's largest property-casualty insurers, will establish a national claim call center in San Antonio, Texas.

The center will employ between 300 to 400 people once fully operational. Nationwide has partnered with developer Darren Casey and is in the process of finalizing plans to renovate and occupy space in the Cinema Plaza, which is located near US Highway 281 North near Nakoma Street. It is the site of the former Nakoma Theater. Until the center becomes operational in mid-March, a temporary center has opened at Nationwide's satellite office located at 8415 Datapoint Dr. "Nationwide conducted an extensive national search and the company is confident that San Antonio is an excellent location for the new center," said Orysia K. Meyers, an associate vice president in charge of Nationwide's claim call centers. "The center personnel will take calls from all over the country and will handle a variety of customer needs. We were attracted to San Antonio because of favorable local economics, the potential to hire bilingual employees, and because of the available technology infrastructure." Lee Morton Jr., associate vice president in charge of Nationwide's Texas operations, said, "We are thrilled that the center will be in San Antonio. It is another sign that Nationwide is growing and that it is committed to excellent customer service." Texas Insurance Commissioner Jose Montemayor said, "Nationwide is an important part of our Texas insurance market, and I'm very pleased that Nationwide's management has decided to locate a national claim call center in San Antonio. I'm particularly gratified that Nationwide recognizes the significance of the Spanish-speaking market and will offer financial incentives for bilingual Texans to join the staff of this call center."

The San Antonio center will be Nationwide's third national claim call center. The others are located in Gainesville, Fla., and in Columbus, Ohio, where Nationwide is headquartered.

Both full- and part-time jobs will be available at the San Antonio center. Meyers estimates that it will take six to eight months to fully staff the center. The center will be operational from 7 a.m. until 11 p.m. daily and will be a primary point of access for customers to report claims. Call center personnel will take claims calls from Nationwide's auto, homeowners, and commercial policyholders. Jane Fairchild is the San Antonio Call Center Director. Fairchild, who began her Nationwide career in 1980, previously was the Nationwide Call Center Training and Quality Assurance Director in Columbus.

Nationwide is the country's fourth largest homeowners and fifth largest auto insurer.
