NABC Revises Vision and Mission Statements

St. Charles, IL -- The National Auto Body Council (NABC) recently took a fresh look at its Vision and Mission statements and made some changes. These changes, according to Executive Director Mark Claypool, were "purely for clarification purposes", that the basic, founding philosophy was still in place. "Our membership grew significantly last year, but we still have many shops to reach out to," Claypool said. "We have to communicate that it makes good business sense to join the NABC."

The new Vision statement of the NABC is: "The Collision Repair Industry is viewed as an essential profession serving the community". NABC Board President Marco Grossi, President of Collision Craftsmen in Michigan, puts it like this, "If the NABC were to achieve all its goals and fulfill its mission, then our industry would be left with our vision of what the industry could be. We want to stress the fact that what we do in our shops is essential, that we are a profession, and that we serve our communities not only in the work we do but also in giving back to our communities in many ways," said Grossi.

The NABC also adopted a new mission statement: "To develop and implement programs and activities to enhance the image of the Collision Repair Industry." "This brings it all into perspective for the Industry," said Dan Greenwald, Vice President of the NABC and owner of Greenwald's Autobody and Frameworks in San Diego, California. "What shop wouldn't want to be a member of the NABC when they know they will be provided with one of the missing elements of our industry? Who has the time to provide PR to the general public? Joining the NABC is like outsourcing a PR department and it's only a hundred bucks! To me it's a no-brainer."

Founder Chuck Sulkala, owner of ACME Body and Paint Co. Inc. in Jamaica Plain, Massachusetts has always been passionate about the image issue. According to Sulkala, "We all know what we do every day. But who are we? What kind of people? We know the typical collision repair professional is a responsible member of the community, dedicated to quality and service to customers. Isn't that you? Someone who creates jobs, helps out in the community, and treats employees and customers honorably? Isn't that you?"

Sulkala added, "What do you do when you get lumped together with a bunch of back-alley unethical corner cutters who won't or can't repair a car properly? How do you react to tired old jokes about body shops and the routine slander of collision repairers in the media? It's time to say who we are out loud!"

That is what the NABC is all about. To join, you can visit the NABC web site or call toll free for an application, 888-667-7433. Join the hundreds of your peers and help the NABC realize its vision of the industry being recognized as essential, professional and community-minded through service. According to NABC President Grossi, "We all stand to benefit if we succeed."

The National Auto Body Council is a not-for-profit association whose sole purpose is to improve the image of the collision repair industry in the eyes of the general public and to recognize the pride and professionalism of its members. Members and sponsors are all employed in some aspect of the collision repair industry.
