Business Tools | Wednesday February 28 GM to Build New Chicago-Area Parts Distribution CenterDETROIT -- General Motors Corp. will break ground in March on a Chicago-area parts distribution center that will replace a 35-year-old site there. The project in the village of Bolingbrook -- 25 miles from its existing site in Broadview -- will be completed early next year. GM plans to eventually shift 210 to 225 of the Broadview center's 388 workers to the new parts site. Workers not transferred to the new site would not be laid off, in accordance with United Auto Workers contracts, and could opt for retirement. The new 404,000-square-foot center would serve more than 570 GM dealerships in Wisconsin, Iowa, Illinois, Indiana and Michigan. GM's Service Parts Operations, based in Grand Blanc, markets automotive replacement parts and accessories globally under the GM and ACDelco brand names. ©2000 Collision Repair Industry INSIGHT | FEATURED INSIGHT Supports the NABC! |
