Alain Batty Named President & CEO Ford of Canada

OAKVILLE, ON -- Alain Batty, who lived and studied in Montreal before embarking on a career with Ford Motor Company, has been named the new president and CEO of Ford Motor Company of Canada, Limited, effective April 2, 2001.

Batty, 49, will become the 14th president and CEO in Ford of Canada's 97- year history. In his most recent position, Batty had been the president of Ford Russia and the Commonwealth of Independent States. A 24-year Ford employee, he has studied, lived and worked on four continents and speaks French, Spanish and English. He replaces Bobbie Gaunt, who retired at the end of 2000.

"Alain Batty has the energy and the vision to lead Ford of Canada toward its transformation as a leading consumer company. His strong international background is one of several strengths he brings to Canada, one of the world's most diverse nations," said Martin Inglis, vice president, Ford North America Consumer Business Group.

"Ford of Canada's reputation as a caring, consumer-driven company speaks volumes about the 16,000 employees who manufacture engines, assemble vehicles and provide sales, service and marketing support to a strong dealership network. I look forward to the challenge, and to working with the Ford of Canada team to find breakthrough ways of satisfying Canadian and global consumers alike," said Batty.

Since 1998, Batty has been in charge of establishing Ford's commercial and manufacturing operations in Russia and the CIS, including the launch of the company's largest venture there yet, a US$150 million Ford Focus assembly plant outside of St. Petersburg that is slated to assemble its first vehicles in October.
