Business Tools | Tuesday March 27 CAPA Elects Auto Body Repair Facility Owner Don Feeley Technical Committee Vice ChairmanDon Feeley, owner of City Body & Frame, recently was named vice chairman of the Certified Auto Parts Association's technical committee, effective March 1. This committee is responsible for working with various industry segments to establish, update and maintain quality standards for aftermarket parts certified by CAPA. "Don is well respected for his experience and leadership in the repair industry," said CAPA president Butch Viccellio. "His attention to quality and his ability to focus on the intricate technical details involved in the repair process will be a great addition to CAPA." Feeley is nationally known for his leadership in the collision repair industry. In addition to owning and managing City Body & Frame in Riverside, Calif., Feeley is the immediate past president of the California Auto Body Association and continues to serve in an active role with the association. He is also a member of the Collision Industry Conference; he serves on the board of the Collision Industry Electronic Commerce Association; he was a governor-appointed member of California's State Bureau of Automotive Repairs Write It Right Committee; and he is a consultant for Spies Heckers Color Club. "Don Feeley's leadership on the technical committee will further our goal of ensuring that CAPA certified parts meet the needs of today's collision repairers," said CAPA executive director, Jack Gillis. "Feeley and the other repairers on CAPA's technical committee are a vital part of the standard setting process." CAPA technical committee officers are elected by committee members to serve a two-year term and must be approved by the CAPA board of directors. The committee's nomination and election of Feeley is part of CAPA's effort to broaden the representation and expertise on its board and committees. In February, USAA's director of auto industry affairs, Rod Enlow, was elected to serve as chairman of the technical committee, and numerous committee members have been added from the repair and the parts manufacturing industries. CAPA is an independent, non-profit, third-party standard-setting and certification program whose goal is to ensure the availability of a high-quality, fairly priced, alternative to car company parts in the market. CAPA's board of directors includes consumer, repair shop, part distributor and insurance company members. A significant, but decreasing portion, of CAPA's annual operating expenses are donated by members of the insurance industry. CAPA is modeled after Underwriters Laboratory, which is now independent, but founded by the insurance industry in the early 1900s.
