Business Tools | Friday June 29 AutoWeek Reader Survey Selects America's Best Vehicles; Eight Different Manufacturers Place Models on Top-Ten ListDETROIT -- America's most passionate car consumers have spoken. Results of the 12th Annual AutoWeek "America's Best" Awards, announced in the magazine's July 2nd cover story, include an amazing list of top cars and trucks from eight different global automakers. The final selections for America's Best loved cars are split evenly across continents with three from North America, three Asian and four European models. The 10 overall America's Best winners are:
AutoWeek's readers also picked 10 vehicles sold in America by domestic, European and Asian automakers. Topping those lists are the Chevrolet Corvette, BMW 3 Series and Honda Accord. "Congratulations to the vehicle manufacturers whose vehicles were selected by the car savvy and sophisticated AutoWeek subscribers," said AutoWeek Editor Dutch Mandel. Reader selections were comprehensive, with two manufacturers -- BMW and Honda -- placing multiple models among the Top Ten. BMW was the big winner; its 3 Series model selected as the top choice overall and its 5 Series slotted third. Each of Detroit's Big Three automakers was represented, and one truck made the final cut, though no SUVs made the list of sports cars, sports sedans, luxury and entry-level models. AutoWeek readers also identified winners in each of 11 separate categories that included America's Best luxury sedan (Mercedes-Benz S Class), America's Best first new car (Ford Focus) and America's Best family hauler (Chevrolet Suburban). A complete listing of all winners will be posted on http://www.autoweek.com/ on Monday, July 2. The annual award balloting was sent to a one-percent random sampling of AutoWeek subscribers. For 2001 the survey parameters were expanded to include any vehicle sold in America. Previous "America's Best" polls asked readers to select only those vehicles constructed by American manufacturers.
