Bell & Howell Names Heather Comer Vice President of Software Development

CLEVELAND -- Richfield, Ohio-based Bell & Howell Publishing Services, a subsidiary of ProQuest Company, promoted Heather Comer to the new position of vice president, global automotive development. Comer was previously director, global automotive development, a position she held since January 2000.

In her new position, Comer will establish strategy and vision related to global software development activities for expanding the company's core product, the automotive electronic parts catalog. Bell & Howell publishes electronic parts catalogs for 20 automakers around the world, including General Motors, Ford, DaimlerChrysler, Toyota and Volvo. Electronic parts catalogs are used at automobile dealerships by parts personnel and technicians to quickly, easily and accurately identify needed replacement parts.

"This promotion recognizes Heather's leadership, significant past contributions and increased role as we expand beyond today's electronic parts catalog capabilities and grow our business globally," said Lee Poseidon, senior vice president and general manager, Bell & Howell Publishing Services' Global Automotive unit.

Comer joined Bell & Howell in 1986 as a software engineer, and helped develop the industry's first electronic parts catalog products. In 1989, she became an applications project manager, leading teams that developed reference systems for the automotive and airline industries. In 1993, Comer was named manager of development and software quality for a Bell & Howell start-up company that developed document management systems for manufacturing facilities. From 1996 to 2000, she managed and directed a number of software development programs for Bell & Howell's international customers.

A native of Youngstown, Ohio, Comer holds a bachelor's degree in computer science from Youngstown State University.
