BASF Corporation Establishes '911 Fund' to Aid Families of the Emergency Workers Lost in the Tragedy of September 11, 2001

MOUNT OLIVE, N.J. -- BASF Corporation, the North American affiliate of BASF AG (Ludwigshafen, Germany), has announced the establishment of an employee contribution driven fund to aid the families of the police, fire, and emergency medical service workers who lost their lives while responding to the World Trade Center terrorist attack.

The entire proceeds of the BASF Corporation 911 Fund will be donated to a select list of organizations that will benefit the families of those who bravely gave their lives while trying to help others during the tragedy. The company will also match all employee donations.

"BASF employees have a long history of responding to communities in need," said Peter Oakley, BASF Chairman and Chief Executive Officer. "The 911 Fund provides an avenue for them to assist the people who have been gravely and personally affected by the tragic events of this week."

Jurgen Strube, Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of BASF AG, in a letter to all the employees of BASF's U.S. operations, said, "Personally and on behalf of the other members of the Board of Executive Directors, let me express to you, our American colleagues, our deepest sympathy and condolences in particular to the families of the victims of this horrendous act."

No BASF Corporation employee was injured in the tragic events of September 11. All BASF facilities in North America are operating normally, while maintaining heightened security. The company has made counseling available to all employees, as well as providing them with blood donation information and scheduling an on-site blood drive in conjunction with the Blood Center of New Jersey.
