Business Tools | Wednesday January 9 Valspar Names John Ballbach President and COOMINNEAPOLIS -- The Valspar Corporation has announced that John Ballbach has been named President and Chief Operating Officer effective immediately. Valspar is a global leader in the paint and coatings industry with annual revenues of $2 billion. Mr. Ballbach, along with Rolf Engh, Senior Vice President, General Counsel and Secretary, Paul Reyelts, Senior Vice President - Finance and Chief Financial Officer, Larry Brandenburger, Corporate Vice President - Technology, and Gary Gardner - Corporate Vice President Human Resources and Public Affairs will report to Rich Rompala, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer. Steve Erdahl has been named Executive Vice President - Industrial and Automotive Coatings and Bill Mansfield has been named Executive Vice President - Architectural, Packaging and Specialty Coatings. Mr. Erdahl and Mr. Mansfield will report directly to John Ballbach along with Kate Bass, Vice President - Information Systems and Steve Lindberg, Corporate Vice President - Engineered Polymer Solutions (EPS), Color Corporation of America (CCA) and Composites. Tom White, Corporate Vice President - Manufacturing will report directly to Bill Mansfield and Tom Wood, Corporate Vice President - Purchasing and Logistics will report directly to Steve Erdahl. John Ballbach joined Valspar in 1990 as General Manager, Flexible Packaging Coatings and Adhesives and was named Vice President, Sales and Marketing, Packaging Coatings in 1992. In 1996, he moved to Europe to manage Valspar's growth as a global enterprise. He was named Group Vice President - Packaging in 1999 and Senior Vice President - EPS, CCA and Operations in 2000. Prior to joining Valspar, Mr. Ballbach held sales and marketing management positions at Bethlehem Steel Corporation, American Can Company and Genesis Packaging Systems. Mr. Ballbach has a Bachelors Degree from Georgetown College and an MBA from Harvard. Steve Erdahl joined Valspar in 1974 and held a number of sales and sales management positions during his career prior to being named Vice President, Industrial Metals in 1989 and Group Vice President, Industrial in 1991. He was named Senior Vice President, Operations in 1999 and Senior Vice President, Industrial and Packaging in 2000. In 2001 Mr. Erdahl led Valspar's integration of the Lilly Industries acquisition, which was the largest and one of the most successful acquisitions in Valspar's history. Bill Mansfield joined Valspar in 1977 and held a number of positions in purchasing and manufacturing prior to being named Vice President, Packaging in 1990 and Group Vice President, Packaging in 1991. Mr. Mansfield led the efforts to expand and globalize the packaging coatings business through a number of highly successful acquisitions in the U.S. and internationally. He was named Senior Vice President, Packaging and Industrial in 1998 and assumed additional responsibility as Senior Vice President - Architectural, Packaging and Specialty Coatings in 2000.
