Patrick D. Campbell to Join 3M as Chief Financial Officer

ST. PAUL, Minn. -- 3M has announced two important changes to its senior management team.

Patrick D. Campbell has been named senior vice president and chief financial officer, effective Feb. 1, 2002. Campbell, 49, was formerly vice president, Finance for General Motors Europe.

"We are excited to have Pat Campbell join the 3M team," said W. James McNerney Jr., 3M chairman and CEO. "His skills match perfectly with 3M's initiatives to strengthen operational capability and accelerate growth, and he is experienced at driving global financial discipline from the center of the company. During his 25-year career at GM, he has had an unusual depth and breadth of financial leadership experience. Pat is a team-oriented and results-driven leader who can help take us to the next level."

Campbell's prior experience at General Motors includes vice president and chief financial officer for International Operations, finance director for North American Vehicle Sales, Service and Marketing, and executive director of Investor Relations.

Campbell succeeds Robert J. Burgstahler, 57, who was named senior vice president of Business Development and Corporate Services at 3M, also effective Feb. 1, 2002. In his new role, Burgstahler will lead 3M's strategic planning and acquisition efforts, in addition to overseeing IT and corporate administrative services.

"I'm pleased to have Bob lead our strategic planning and acquisition activities," McNerney said. "We will supplement our strong organic growth engine with other growth initiatives, including acquisitions, and one of our best executives will now lead the effort. Bob will also oversee our global information technology organization to ensure maximum return on investment and rapid digitization."
