Automotive Hall of Fame Names Toyota President Fujio Cho Industry Leader of the Year
DEARBORN, Mich. -- The Automotive Hall of Fame recognized seven motor vehicle industry leaders at its annual awards luncheon held in conjunction with the annual convention of the National Automobile Dealers Association in New Orleans.
Fujio Cho, President of Toyota Motor Corporation, was named the Automotive Hall of Fame's Industry Leader of the Year for 2001. Cho assumed the position of President in 1999. As the company's chief executive, he not only shapes corporate policy for Toyota but is a highly regarded spokesman for the automobile industry and for manufacturing in general.
The Automotive Hall of Fame's Distinguished Service Citations were presented to Thomas J. Davis, Group Vice President of GM North America Product Development, General Motors Corporation; Terry M.W. Ehrich, Publisher and Editor, Hemmings Motor News, Inc., who was honored posthumously; Andy Granatelli, retired auto racing legend and business entrepreneur; Joseph Magliochetti, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Dana Corporation; Mary Simonson Rehwald, President, Dealer Principal, W. I. Simonson, Inc. Mercedes- Benz; and Robert L. Rewey, retired Group Vice President - Global Consumer Services North America, Ford Motor Company.
Popular Mechanics magazine presented its Honored Marque Award to Cadillac and GMC in honor of their 100th anniversaries.
The Automotive Hall of Fame, located in Dearborn, Michigan, is the only industry-wide means to honor the men and women of the global motor vehicle and related industries. It is dedicated to preserving the history of mobility by celebrating the creativity, toil and genius of the individual.
