Jacqueline Glassman Named Chief Counsel at NHTSA

Jacqueline Glassman, the former DaimlerChrysler AG attorney has been named chief counsel at the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. She worked for seven years in the office of general counsel at the automaker and was named senior counsel in 1997. Glassman is best known for her defense of Chrysler Corp. against a 1996 lawsuit over California's "lemon law." The automaker was charged with reselling defective cars that had been returned, without informing the new owners of the vehicle's history.

The state's Department of Motor Vehicles suspended Chrysler's license to do business there for 45 days, but the decision was overturned.

Safety groups criticized Glassman's appointment.
