Business Tools | Tuesday March 5 Toronto Tow Firms Ask for 100% Fee IncreaseToronto -- A report prepared by City of Toronto staff for their Licensing Committee advises that the tow firms in Toronto are requesting a 100 percent increase for their fees. Currently tow firms are restricted under municipal by-laws to only charging $130 for the tow to a Collision Reporting Centre for cars that are not on highways and $150 for those tows from highways in the Toronto coverage area. The new proposed fee would double this rate. City staff have suggested that a 20 percent fee increase would be more appropriate based on increased expenses for two truck owners, including insurance costs for their businesses. The original fees were set in 1996. The report was presented to the Licensing Committee on February 19. Only 5 delegations showed up of the 16 that had been invited. Tow operators who did speak however were under the impression that the meeting agenda was to establish a tow truck advisory committee and were not prepared to justify a rate increase at that time. The issue was deferred by the Committee and staff members were to consider the formation of a tow truck advisory group. ©2002 Collision Repair Industry INSIGHT | FEATURED INSIGHT Supports the NABC! |
