Margo and Bob Smith Receive NABC President's Award

St. Charles, IL -- At the recent SCRS-sponsored tribute to the National Auto Body Council, called Pride Night, held this year at Collision Concepts in Nashville, TN, the NABC presented Margo and Bob Smith with its President's Award. Each year, the President of the NABC Board selects a single worthy individual to receive this prestigious award. The individual honored is selected for contributions, not only to the NABC, but to the industry as well.

"Since Margo and Bob Smith are inseparable as a pair and together do so much for this industry, it was a natural choice for me to make," said Marco Grossi, current President of the NABC Board and owner of Collision Craftsmen in Macomb Township, MI. The Smith's are owners of Storm Appraisal in Independence, MO, an independent appraisal company.

Among the many things the Smiths have done that were recognized by the NABC were things like serving on several national and local association boards, chief among them SCRS and the NABC. Margo was in charge of local details for the NABC "House that PRIDE Built" Habitat for Humanity project in Kansas City in April of 2000. "During the eight days we spent building the house, Margo was always the first one there and the last to leave, even after 12-14 hour days," said Mark Claypool, Executive Director of the NABC. "Margo also joined a Board delegation to Montana to visit Camp Mak-A-Dream to assess their needs and help develop our approach to the industry for the much needed health center we are helping to fund," added Claypool.

True to form, Margo Smith was actively seeking supplies and materials for Camp Mak-A-Dream during the festivities at Pride Night, flashing around a hot pink "Wish List" put together by camp staff. That night she was successful in securing vacuum cleaners, batteries, balloons, helium, CD players and much more. Bob Smith was figuring out how to get a trailer he could use to haul all the items Margo was getting donated to the camp, which is over a thousand miles away from their home base in Missouri.

Margo was the co-chair of the SCRS Kansas City/Topeka chapter golf outing that raised $10,000 for the Camp Mak-A-Dream project. Bob was by her side each step of the way and was already planning on how they could do it again in 2002 and possibly expand it to other areas.

Both Margo and Bob serve as co-chairs of Collision Industry Conference sub-committees. The time they spend on these committees alone is substantial as evidenced by their reports at each CIC meeting.

"These are just some of the things that they do, and we aren't even aware of all the things they do in their own community outside of the industry, but we understand that they are very active there as well," said Grossi.

Mark Claypool commented, "What a team they are. We are most fortunate to have them on ours." They received a standing ovation from the Pride Night crowd.

The National Auto Body Council is a not-for-profit association whose sole purpose is to improve the image of the collision repair industry in the eyes of the general public and to recognize the pride and professionalism of its members. Members and sponsors are all employed in some aspect of the collision repair industry.
