BASF's Whitehouse Facility Receives Award for Excellence in Responsible Care

BASF Corporation's facility in Whitehouse, Ohio has received the Ohio Chemistry Technology Council's 2001 Award for Excellence in Responsible Care® at the OCTC's 24th Annual Conference. It was the ninth straight year that the award has been given to BASF's Frederick G. Weed Automotive Development Center/North American Refinish Application & Training Center complex.

Ohio Chemistry Technology Council (OCTC) Vice President Christina A. Elsner said, "This award reflects the unanimous agreement among our judges that your Responsible Care program represents a vital, sustained initiative that is making a difference - both in environmental performance and in the ongoing effort to demonstrate to the public our industry's commitment to the communities in which we live and do business."

Responsible Care is an American Chemistry Council initiative designed to promote the implementation of positive environmental, health, and safety measures with an emphasis on community cooperation. The program's codes cover a wide range of initiatives, including emergency planning coordination between a plant and the nearby community.

"We're extremely proud that the efforts of our employees here at Whitehouse have led to this recognition for the quality and success of our Responsible Care program," said Karl Schnapp, Manager, Site/Administrative Services for BASF's Whitehouse facility.

"As we pursue the ultimate vision of a future with no accidents, injuries or harm to the environment, it's gratifying to see just how much can be accomplished with committed employees and the cooperation of a community like Whitehouse, Ohio," observed Albert Winterman, Group Vice President for the BASF Automotive Refinish Strategic Business Unit.
