Collision-Related Companies Rise to the Occasion in Support of Camp Mak-A-Dream

The Society of Collision Repair Specialists (SCRS) is pleased to announce yet another landmark in the industry's continuing support of Camp Mak-A-Dream. To date, 39 different collision repair and industry-related companies have made a contribution of $500 each to the Collision Industry Foundation established by the National Auto Body Council (NABC) for the retreat for children with cancer, which combines the fun of summer camp with expert health care at no cost to participants.

"The response has been wonderful and it has come from all segments of the industry," says SCRS Chairman Joel Lofton. "I think this goes to show everyone that the industry isn't as fragmented as some may consider it to be." p> The latest flurry of donations comes in response to a special promotion SCRS is holding on behalf of Camp Mak-A-Dream. Earlier in the year, SCRS pledged to raise $100,000 for the camp, part of a total of $500,000 pledged by the NABC and to be matched by the M.J. Murdock Charitable Trust. The contributions will be used to help fund a new medical center.

To help accomplish this financial goal, SCRS contacted collision industry-related companies, proposing that they donate $500 each toward the charity. These dollars would be aggregated to purchase ten $3,000 travel gift certificates from such vendors as Apple Vacations, Funjet Vacations, Carnival Cruise Lines and Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines. The certificates would then be given away as prizes during a drawing at the "Industry Night of Achievement" taking place this year at NACE in Dallas, Texas.

Word quickly spread and it didn't take long for the following companies to rise to the occasion and give generously of themselves:

  • 3M Co. Automotive Trades Division
  • ACME Body & Paint Co. Inc.
  • Auto Body Parts Association
  • ADP Claims Solutions Group
  • Akzo Nobel Coatings, Inc.
  • AutoNetworks
  • BASF Corporation
  • Caliber Collision Centers
  • Car-O-Liner
  • Carter and Carter International, Inc.
  • CCC Information Services, Inc.

  • Sports & Imports Collision
  • Spraybake Inc.
  • Summit Software Solutions, Inc.

While the above roster of participants is certainly impressive, SCRS realizes that help is needed from more than this group of 39 and the approximately $19,000 they have brought forward. "It's time to push this effort over the top," declares SCRS Past Chairman Chuck Sulkala, who serves on the Camp Mak-A-Dream Board of Directors. "I ask those who make their living in and around the industry to help make this dream a reality in the months to come."

If your company is interested in assisting with this project, please contact SCRS Executive Director, Dan Risley at (708) 598-3384 or e-mail him. "This isn't about who gets the most press or pays the most money," Risley says. "It's about an industry uniting to support children with cancer. We have always maintained that 'Working Together Is The Most Important Work We Do' and this is no different."
