GM To Offer OnStar Advanced Automatic Crash Notification In 2003

General Motors Corp. will add an automatic crash notification system to vehicles with OnStar communications systems beginning in 2003.

The system will be available on about 400,000 2004 model-year vehicles equipped with OnStar, with expansion into additional vehicles in later model years.

The system will automatically notify OnStar call centers if the vehicle is involved in a crash and will provide information on the crash's severity to be relayed to 911 dispatchers.

OnStar currently notifies the call center only if the airbag is deployed.
