'37 Ford Pickup Wins PPG Dream Car Award

Ken Sarbu, of Middleburg, Florida won the PPG "Dream Car" award at the Goodguys Rod and Custom Association National show, July 12 through 14 in Columbus, Ohio. His vehicle, a '37 Ford Pickup, won the award for outstanding use of color, design, gloss and execution of the paint job.

PPG Automotive Refinish, the "Official Finish of the Goodguys", exhibits at most Goodguys events held annually across North America, and presents "Dream Car" awards to vehicles with outstanding finishes. Sarbu's '37 Ford Pickup was built and custom finished at Blewetts Rod Shop in Venice, Florida. Owner Mike Blewett and Sarbu worked together to choose colors and design for the interior and exterior. The truck was primed with a PPG DP primer, sealed with NCS 2002 and finished with Deltron 2000 (DBC) basecoat. The basecoat colors were "Hugger Orange" mixed with "Sunset Pearl" and DBC 790 Black. The car was clearcoated with PPG's DCU 2042 fast-drying clear. The entire project took about 10 months to complete.

"This is a truly outstanding vehicle," said Steve Schwartz, head of the PPG committee that selected the winner. "We selected this vehicle because the color scheme was bold and eye catching. The subtle graphic design made this car stand out above the rest. The engine compartment was especially nice since it was matched to the color scheme of the exterior. The paint job was flawless...this car is definitely a winner."

In the short time since Sarbu's vehicle has been finished, it also won "Best Truck" at the "Run to the Sun" custom car show in Myrtle Beach, Florida.
