Business Tools | Wednesday September 11 CARSTAR Chicagoland Enhances Environmental Safety Training for National Pollution Prevention WeekTo enhance workplace safety programs and strengthen environmental compliance efforts, the CARSTAR Chicagoland Business Group recently conducted a regional training seminar in conjunction with the Coordinating Committee For Automotive Repair (CCAR). The seminar included an overview of the most recent employee safety training and environmental awareness, as well as a review of CARSTAR’s hazardous communications program."A safe workplace for our employees and a clean environment for our community is vitally important to everyone at CARSTAR," said Teresa Kostick, CARSTAR Chicagoland Business Group Chairperson. "Workplace and equipment safety has always been part of our training program. Since CARSTAR is a national sponsor for CCAR’s S/P2 safety and environmental training, the joint safety seminar was an ideal partnership opportunity. Regulations and procedures change frequently, and we want to be sure we’re updated on the latest information to keep our shops safe for employees, customers and the surrounding community." The CARSTAR seminar, conducted at All Line CARSTAR in Bolingbrook, Illinois, provided an opportunity for management teams, body and paint technicians and administrative staff to learn the latest information on state and federal workplace and environment safety guidelines. CARSTAR is a national sponsor for CCAR, which operates CCAR-GreenLink®, the National Environmental Compliance Assistance Center for the automotive industry in cooperation with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. "Our resources provide a one-stop solution to help collision repair facilities remain in compliance with governmental standards while also protecting the environment," said Robert G. Stewart, acting president of CCAR. "We’ve developed S/P2 as an online training program that body shops use to train and their employees in terms of the appropriate safety and environmental procedures, especially the best ways to handle the fluids, substances, compounds and paints that you find in body shops." During the daylong seminar, participants reviewed the latest information on EPA and OSHA compliance, workplace safety and environmental awareness. "We covered the top safety and pollution issues for collision repair businesses," explained Kostick. "Every employee should be trained in these critically important areas each year, and our Chicagoland CARSTAR locations are leading the way by creating a formal training and development program that will help us operate safer, cleaner shops." National Pollution Prevention Week is traditionally celebrated nationally the third week of September, from Monday to the following Sunday. It is a time when businesses, environmental groups and citizens join forces for a common cause. By sharing information about pollution prevention (P2), businesses can become more competitive, business and government can realize cost savings, and environmental quality can be enhanced for everyone. ©2002 Collision Repair Industry INSIGHT | FEATURED INSIGHT Supports the NABC! |
