Business Tools | Thursday September 12 Sonny Pan Elected New Chairman of TABPAMembers of the Taiwan Auto Body Parts Association (TABPA) held their annual meeting and election in late August. Earlier in the month, current Chairman, Mr. Parkson Jong, indicated his desire to step down from the position he held successfully for two years. At the recent meeting, Mr. Sonny Pan, Vice President of Gordon Auto Body Parts, was unanimously elected by the membership as Mr. Jong's successor.Mr. Pan, known by most as 'Sonny,' is one of the youngest members of TABPA to be elected to the top job. At 33, Pan brings to the position experience in the industry and an educational background which includes a masters degree in Business Administration (MBA) from National Cheng Chi University, as well as a bachelors degree in Transportation Management & Communications. Prior to assuming his current position at Gordon, Sonny Pan was the Assistant to the General Manager of the company. He also served as TABPA Vice President for two years and has been active on TABPA Committees since 1999. As Vice President of Gordon his major job is to conduct the general management of factory operations and act as spokesman for the company. Upon completing his second term as chairman of TABPA, the first being when TABPA was in its infancy in the early 1990s, Parkson Jong, Vice General Manager of Auto Parts Industrial (API) said, "TABPA members are very confident in Mr. Sonny Pan to be our new Chairman as I step down on September 30, 2002. Sonny has served TABPA well as Vice Chairman during the past two years using his fine education, intelligence, vision and experience to improve our industry and working relationships with all segments of the American marketplace." Jong added, " Pan has shown his professional knowledge and dedication to the industry by spending a great deal of time in assisting me as Chairman. With his language ability, I am sure he will make great improvements in communication between TABPA and all segments of our industry." Pan commented, "TABPA's mission is to keep the communication channel open so that Taiwanese manufacturers hear the real voices of every segment of the industry. Our vision is to improve Taiwan's aftermarket auto body parts' image." "TABPA is dedicated to cooperating with every sector. We hope to achieve our vision by listening and responding to marketplace needs. TABPA, as an association, provides manufacturers opportunities to present to the public the accomplishments and intentions of our members," Pan concluded. According to Karen Fierst, President of KerenOr Consultants and US Advisor to TABPA, "Over the years, Sonny Pan has worked to develop a successful and efficient bridge for communication between manufacturers and other constituencies. He has lead Gordon in their quest to better understand the needs of the collision repair industry, as illustrated by their membership in ASA and SCRS, Sonny's attendance at CIC meetings whenever possible, and visits to collision repair shops around the US." During his two years as Vice President of TABPA, Pan worked closely with Mac Liao, of Ensure Tech, and Chairman of TABPA's Technical Committee, and Brett Margolis of Entela-Taiwan, to facilitate effective communication among manufacturers and CAPA. In his position as chairperson, Pan will be assisted by vice chairpersons Parkson Jong and John Lu of Jui Li Enterprises, as well as Mac Liao, who continues as Chairman of TABPA's Technical Committee. TABPA is a subcommittee of the Taiwan Transportation Vehicle Manufacturers' Association, representing approximately 30 Taiwan-based companies manufacturing motor vehicle replacement parts for the global market.
