Kevin Rowell Named President of SAFECO Mutual Funds

SAFECO Life & Investments has announced that Kevin A. Rowell, formerly Head of Global Relationships for Alliance Capital Management in New York, will become president of SAFECO Mutual Funds.

"We are thrilled to have a leader of Kevin's stature and energy," said Roger Harbin, executive vice president of SAFECO Life & Investments. "Because of his background and experience, he is a perfect match for our way of doing business."

While at Alliance Capital, Rowell oversaw senior client relationships with all international and domestic broker/dealer firms, and prior to that was Alliance's director of national sales for its financial advisor and financial institutions divisions. That role followed an 11-year stint with Putnam Investments where Rowell was the European director of corporate development.

"At SAFECO, our focus is to offer competitive financial products while capitalizing on distribution opportunities," Harbin said. "Kevin will help implement the mutual funds component of that strategy."

Rowell, a 17-year veteran of the investments business, is excited about signing on with SAFECO. "Because of SAFECO's excellent reputation and stability, I see tremendous potential for growth," said Rowell. "Our strategy of seeking out and developing distribution for SAFECO products matches my ideal vision for a mutual funds operation."

SAFECO Life & Investments offers life insurance, annuities, mutual funds, employee benefits, and other financial products and services through independent agents, banks and financial advisors.
