Joe Sanders Named ASA Collision Division Administrator

Joe Sanders was recently named Collision Division Administrator for the Automotive Service Association (ASA). He is returning to the national ASA staff after spending 20 years in the collision repair industry as a shop owner, sales and marketing manager, and acquisition executive.

Sanders has been active in several industry organizations, having served on the boards of directors for the National Institute of Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) and the Inter-Industry Conference on Auto Collision Repair (I-CAR). He was named BodyShop Business Magazine Executive of the Year in 1995, and he has been inducted into the I-CAR Hall of Fame and the Collision Industry Hall of Eagles.

Sanders said he is enthusiastic about the direction the ASA Collision Division is taking. "I want ASA to become a more integral part of our members' businesses," he said. "We are looking for more ways to become a better day-to-day value for our members to help them better compete in the market."

Although the ASA Collision Division Operations Committee has been and will continue working on many initiatives, Sanders said a few issues will be the thrust of most activities in 2003. ASA is supporting legislation in Texas opposing insurance company ownership of collision repair shops.

Also in 2003, the Operations Committee will continue working with the Certified Automotive Parts Association (CAPA), the Manufacturer's Qualification and Validation Program (MQVP) and other entities seeking to improve the quality of aftermarket crash parts. Among ASA's legislative objectives is its commitment to support legislation that prevents insurance companies from requiring the use of aftermarket crash parts unless the vehicle owner consents in writing. "ASA is continuing its history of supporting the consumer's right to full disclosure and consent when it comes to the repair of their vehicle," Sanders said.

Rounding out the ASA Collision Division's immediate top priorities, Sander said, is improving the quality, accuracy and thoroughness of automated estimating systems.
