Avis and I.D. Systems Initiate Pilot Program To Automate the Car Rental Process

Avis Rent A Car System, Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of Cendant Corporation, and I.D. Systems, Inc. are working together on a pilot program to implement I.D. Systems' Wireless Asset Net(TM) fleet management technology on Avis' fleet of approximately 2,000 rental vehicles in Puerto Rico by mid 2003. The technology will automate various aspects of the car rental and return process, helping improve customer service and increasing the efficiency of fleet operations.

"As a company that places a high value on innovations that improve our customers' rental experience, Avis is very pleased to test the system with our fleet in Puerto Rico," said Patric Siniscalchi, senior vice president of international operations for Avis. "By accurately detecting and automatically transmitting vehicle data, the Wireless Asset Net system will help our customers get into the vehicle of their choice faster at the beginning of the rental, and help get them on their way more quickly at the end of the rental."

For example, by maintaining real time inventory within a rental facility, the system facilitates quick delivery of the customer's first choice of vehicle type. By automatically uploading vehicle identification numbers as vehicles approach the exit gate, or return to the rental lot, the system collects data and speeds the pick up and return process.

"We look forward to entering this partnership with Avis," said Jeffrey Jagid, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of I.D. Systems. "It opens up an exciting new commercial application of our core wireless asset management technology, and it provides I.D. Systems with significant new opportunities for growth."

Avis Rent A Car System, Inc. and its subsidiaries operate the world's second largest general-use car rental brand, providing business and leisure customers with a wide range of services at more than 1,700 locations in the United States, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and the Latin/American Caribbean region.
