BMW Service Websites Launched for BMW and Mini Vehicles

In keeping with the auto manufacturers' commitments to independent repair shops, as described in a letter to U.S. Sen. Byron Dorgan, D-N.D., on Sept. 26, 2002, the BMW Group has launched new service information Web sites to provide access to factory-authorized, emissions and non-emissions diagnostic and repair information for 1990 and newer BMW and Mini vehicles. (Some information dates to 1982 models.) These websites contain the same information and updates available to franchised dealers.

Current features on the websites include:

  • Full-text service information bulletins (with multiple search options)
  • Full-text technical training information and manuals
  • Full-text repair information
  • Model map (translates model, model year and BMW model series)
  • Labor operation times
  • Special tools database and tool purchase instructions
  • Electronic troubleshooting manuals for pre-1995 vehicles.

Information on the sites is updated daily and the content will be expanded as new information becomes available. The websites can be accessed at www.bmwtechinfo.com (or www.bmwtis.com) and www.minitechinfo.com.

Auto manufacturers currently offering service information via the Internet include General Motors Corp., American Honda, Hyundai, Volkswagen/Audi and Volvo. Other automakers will be launching service Web sites over the next few weeks.

The National Automotive Service Task Force was established in 2000 to facilitate: (1) the identification and correction of gaps in the availability and accessibility of OEM automotive service information; (2) technology training for technicians; (3) availability of both OEM and generic diagnostic tools and equipment; and (4) communication outreach to automotive service professionals.
