Business Tools | Friday March 7 DuPont Performance Coatings Contributes to AYESDuPont Performance Coatings will make a significant contribution over the next three years to the Automotive Youth Educational Systems, a non-profit organization dedicated to bringing young people into the automotive service and repair industry.AYES builds partnerships between selected quality secondary-technical schools and participating local automotive dealerships. Through integrated classroom/work site experiences, and guided by an assigned mentor, students in the AYES program develop both hands-on technical skills and “employability” skills. Some 280 schools and 3,200 dealerships in 42 states are currently affiliated with the program. According to Dr. Dieter Zetsche, AYES chairman and president and CEO of Chrysler, the organization’s goal is 1,000 schools and 7,500 dealerships across the country. While its emphasis has been on the service segment of the industry, AYES has started to incorporate I-CAR collision repair courses into the curriculum of AYES high and technical schools. “AYES addresses perhaps the most important need in our industry – attracting skilled, qualified technicians,” said Tim Dawe, industry relations manager for DuPont Performance Coatings. “We’re very pleased to support AYES and its increased efforts to attract and train qualified collision repair technicians. Like our recent contribution to Florida Community College and our continuing relationship with Universal Technical Institute, this is yet another example of DPC’s commitment to training the next generation of technicians.” ©2003 Collision Repair Industry INSIGHT | FEATURED
