ARA Celebrates Earth Day

On April 22, the 32nd Earth Day, Automotive Recyclers Association (ARA) members worldwide will participate in various Earth Day events to help further raise consumer awareness of the environmental and economic benefits of automotive recycling.

“Earth Day is another opportunity to remind people that they can do so much more than merely recycle their glass bottles and metal cans,” said Bill Steinkuller, ARA Executive Vice President. “Many other products that we use can be recycled, including things that may not fit in your recycle bin, such as the family car, which contains a high number of recyclable parts. We hope that customers support ARA members and the environment buy buying a recycled part next time their car needs a repair.”

Every year, millions of vehicles are recycled and the parts are reused, thereby conserving natural resources that would otherwise be used to make new replacement parts. Automotive recycling also eliminates any additional pollution that may occur when new parts are made and further preserves precious landfill space.

This year’s Earth Day effort is again being endorsed by ARA, along with its affiliate chapter associations, with a goal of sending a message that ARA member auto recyclers are important leaders in conserving our planet’s resources, reducing waste, creating jobs and strengthening our world’s economy.

By purchasing quality recycled parts, consumers can help build markets for products made out of recycled steel, glass, paper, plastic and aluminum materials – like the items placed in bins or at the drop-off facilities, as well as the important aspect of substantial savings for parts.

Founded in 1943, the ARA has represented an industry dedicated to the efficient removal and reuse of automotive parts, and the proper disposal of inoperable motor vehicles. With programs such as the certified auto recycler program (CAR), and other partnerships with automotive manufacturers, automotive recycling will continue to provide consumers with quality, low cost alternatives for vehicle replacement parts, while preserving our environment for tomorrow.
