CARSTAR Names John Houghton Director of Training and Education

CARSTAR has announced the hiring of a Director of Training and Education to manage the activities of its extensive on-line and platform training resources. John Houghton, a senior level organizational development executive with 20 years of experience, will expand on the solid base of existing programs, including the addition of new courses on CARSTAR University Online, the industry's first Internet-based training tool.

"John is an excellent addition to our senior management team," said George Hansen, Chief Executive Officer of CARSTAR. "Drawing from his experience operating repair shops and managing larger organizations as well as his background in education, he will design and implement specialized training programs that reach all levels of our organization. CARSTAR maintains strict training requirements, and John's expertise will allow us to build our web-based and classroom course offering to meet the needs of our growing franchise base."

Houghton was trained to be a teacher, but since 1985 he has successfully operated several franchise, independent, and dealership body shops. Since 1993, he has managed larger organizations, serving as Chief of Staff at the Massachusetts Registry of Motor Vehicles and most recently as Vice President for Organizational Development with Collision Team of America (CTA). Upon the sale of CTA to Ford Motor Company in 2001, Houghton founded New Leaf Consulting, Inc. to serve select clients who could see the value of planning, process management, and training in the growth and development of their collision repair businesses.

CARSTAR has more than 300 locations across the United States and Canada.
