CIECA Announces B2B Security Guidelines

The completion of the CIECA Guideline entitled “Security for Electronic B2B Transactions” was announced in May at the ACORD conference held in Disney World.

The electronic exchange of B2B transactions in the collision industry has been steadily increasing. More and more interconnections, interfaces, and data exchanges are created on a daily basis. As the business value of these transactions increases, it becomes ever more important to examine the security risks present and take steps to mitigate them.

This Guideline recommends a common set of baseline security standards to be used for any and all electronic communications between CIECA member entities. This document recommends technologies, protocols, standards, and mechanisms for providing B2B security services between entities.

“This Guideline is the work of a dedicated team of individuals representing the various collision industry segments. We believe that it is the most comprehensive guideline of its type in the industry,” said State Farm’s Jim Laning, Chair of the Implementation Committee that developed the Guideline. “The Guideline fulfills the Committee’s Mission ‘To assist the collision industry in identifying, and managing data or business information security risk that may threaten the welfare of the industry or consumers.’ This Guideline will be reviewed periodically, updated at least annually, and is available to everyone,” he added.
