PPG Approved by Freightliner to Be Refinish Products Supplier

Freightliner has approved, as of May 1st, PPG Industries as a supplier of refinish products and services to Freightliner LLC repairers worldwide for warranty and aftermarket collision repair. Freightliner LLC is the largest manufacturer of heavy-duty trucks in North America and a leading producer of medium-duty vehicles.

During the year 2002 PPG successfully completed work requested by DaimlerChrysler (DCX), the parent company of Freightliner LLC, which detailed strict requirements in the areas of training, services, R & D and product systems. PPG’s product systems were also put through rigorous testing which mirrored Freightliner LLC’s requirements for its OE finishes. Tests included chip resistance, corrosion, adhesion, UV degradation and color matching.

Carlo Nardini, Director of Technical Support for Freightliner LLC said, “PPG has put forward an excellent package of products and services that we believe meets our needs and the needs of our repairers.”

The program will be utilizing PPG’s Delfleet product systems. These systems meet all specifications for the US National rule and the stringent 1151 rule for Southern California. The approval covers Freightliner, Sterling and Western Star commercial fleet vehicles in all countries in which Freightliner LLC and PPG operate.

Chris Pannent, Director of Commercial Coatings for PPG, said, “Having the two quality brands working together will improve the ability for repairers to meet the needs of the aftermarket.”

PPG is a leading global supplier of coatings, fiberglass, fabricated glass and chemicals with 120 production locations. Sales for 2002 were in excess of US$8 billion.
