Business Tools | Wednesday August 27 ASA, ASE and NADA to Host Hispanic Automotive Technician SummitThe Automotive Service Association (ASA), National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) and the National Automobile Dealers Association (NADA) are hosting a Hispanic Automotive Technician Summit in Washington, D.C. The Summit will be held Wednesday, Oct. 1 on Capitol Hill.The Hispanic Technician Summit will be co-chaired by U.S. Sen. Saxby Chambliss, R-Ga., chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee's Subcommittee on Immigration, and U.S. Rep. Ciro D. Rodriquez, D-Texas, chairman of the House of Representatives' Hispanic Caucus. The Hispanic Technician Summit's goal is to bring together the automotive industry, educators, members of Congress and other interested parties to discuss issues related to the recruitment, retention and workforce development of Spanish speaking automotive service and repair technicians. "As the technician marketplace continues to evolve, our organizations recognize the need for more industry discussion about how best to enhance opportunities for Hispanic technicians entering the automotive field," said Bob Redding, ASA's Washington, D.C., representative. The U.S. Department of Labor predicts a ten percent increase in automotive repair technician jobs by 2010. ASA represents the independent automotive repair industry consisting of 12,000 member businesses across the United States. ASE has certified 420,000 professionals working in all segments of the automotive service industry including car and truck dealerships, independent garages, fleets, service stations, franchises and more.
