PARTnership Network Adopted By Four Major Auto Chains for Document Exchange

The Automotive Aftermarket Industry Association (AAIA) has announced that four of the largest aftermarket resellers in the nation are committed to full production of the PARTnerShip Network solution for e-commerce communication. OReilly Auto Parts, Advance Auto Parts, AutoZone and CSK Auto are all either in full production or testing with the software.

PARTnerShip Network is an industry-sponsored software solution that addresses the escalating costs of e-commerce communications. The software is an alternative to Value-Added Network (VAN) based communication of EDI and other e-commerce messages between business partners. PARTnerShip Network delivers critical business documents with the same reliability and security of a VAN at a fraction of the cost because there are no transaction or per-character fees associated with its use.

PARTnerShip Network was originally announced by OReilly Auto Parts and AAIA at AAPEX in 2002. AAIA is responsible for distribution and administration of support for PARTnerShip Network. At the Aftermarket eForum in July, Mike Williams, vice president, information technology for OReilly, reported that vendors were saving in excess of $50,000 monthly on the e-commerce communication cost associated with OReilly alone.

"This is the best example yet of major industry players collaborating on solutions that lower cost in the supply chain," said Scott Luckett, vice president technology standards and solutions for AAIA.

The four resellers who have installed PARTnerShip Network have 7,600 stores between them and represent over $10 billion in aftermarket sales according to Aftermarket Business Auto Chain Report 2003.

"The potential savings to vendors of these resellers on electronic communications costs are quite significant. I believe anyone selling to these companies would find the ROI for implementation of PARTnerShip Network to be very compelling," said Luckett.

According to Luckett, this is because the software operates peer-to-peer, so that a manufacturer can communicate with one or with many partners who have the software installed. The savings grow rapidly as the number of partners increases.

PARTnerShip Network is available exclusively from AAIA.
