NATA Convention Set for April in Oregon

Art Bobrowitz, a business author and instructor, will be the featured speaker on Friday, April 30, as the Northwest Automotive Trades Association (NATA) holds its annual 2-day convention in Seaside, Ore. His seminar – which has drawn praise from companies nationwide – provides business owners and managers with tools and techniques to improve employee productivity and job satisfaction. The seminar kicks off two days filled with industry information and discussion of such key issues as insurer-owned shops, and getting OEM information.

Bill Haas, national vice president of service repair markets for the Automotive Service Association (ASA), will offer a course on OEM information ability, discussing whether OEM websites are meeting shops’ needs. The 3-hour course, which earns attendees six Automotive Management Institute (AMI) credits, starts with an exploration of non-traditional technical information resources, and goes inside several of the OEM service information websites to show how the availability of this information will enhance a technician’s ability to perform diagnosis and repairs. Attendees will leave the class with a plan to implement the systems and processes necessary to effectively manage these resources – and thus reap the potential profits more efficient repairs offer.

Other training classes are planned, as well as break-out sessions for round-table discussions among each of the segments of the industry: mechanical, collision repair and auto recyclers. A luncheon panel will allow Northwest shops to hear from and question Haas and national representatives of the other groups that NATA is involved with – the Society of Collision Repair Specialists (SCRS), the Automotive Recyclers Association (ARA) and the Alliance of Automotive Service Professionals (AASP) – about industry issues and association plans and goals.

Political party leaders and elected officials are expected to among those at Friday evening’s “Get Political” welcome reception, giving the industry access to key players in Oregon politics.

The convention concludes Saturday evening with a casino night featuring a chance to win a variety of great items.

The convention will be held April 30 and May 1 at the Best Western Ocean View Resort in Seaside, Ore. A special room rate of $68 a night is available at the hotel.

For more information about the event, check the NATA website, or call NATA at (503) 253-9898 or (800) 730-7282.

NATA is a non-for-profit trade association serving more than 700 member businesses from all segments of the automotive industry. NATA is based in Portland, serves members in three Northwest states, and is a partner or affiliate of three national organizations: the Automotive Service Association (ASA), the Society of Collision Repair Specialists (SCRS) and the Automotive Recyclers Association (ARA).
