PPG Honors 11 Companies as Excellent Suppliers

PPG Industries has presented 11 Excellent Supplier Awards for superior performance in 2003.

Award criteria included product quality, delivery, documentation, innovation, responsiveness, continuous improvement and participation in PPG's Supplier Added Value Effort ($AVE) program. The companies earning the 2003 Excellent Supplier Award, and the products and services they provide, are:

  • Arrow Uniform, based in Taylor, Mich., provides uniform and mat services for PPG's U.S. industrial, automotive original equipment, automotive refinish and architectural coatings businesses, as well as for the fine chemicals, automotive original equipment glass and chlor-alkali and derivatives units.
  • Bayer Polymers LLC, Pittsburgh, supplies isocyanates and other raw materials throughout the world for PPG's automotive refinish, industrial, automotive original equipment and architectural coatings businesses, as well as for the fiber glass and optical products units.
  • Consolidated Electrical Distributors, Westlake Village, Calif., provides electrical supplies and components for PPG businesses in the United States such as chlor-alkali and derivatives, silicas and automotive original equipment coatings.
  • Combined Transport, Central Point, Ore., supplies specialized truckload transportation and securement services for PPG's U.S. flat glass businesses.
  • Executive Relocation, Chicago, provides relocation services for most of PPG's U.S. businesses.
  • J.B. Hunt Dedicated Services, Lowell, Ark., supplies a dedicated fleet and other transportation services for PPG businesses in the United States and Canada, including industrial, automotive refinish, architectural and automotive original equipment coatings; automotive and flat glass; chlor-alkali and derivatives; fiber glass; and silicas.
  • KW Plastics, Troy, Ala., supplies 1-gallon composite paint cans to PPG's U.S. architectural coatings business.
  • MAMOR, Grezzago, Italy, provides disposable totes (intermediate bulk containers) to PPG's European automotive, industrial and packaging coatings businesses.
  • Rohm, Darmstadt, Germany, supplies methacrylates to PPG's automotive (OEM and refinish), industrial and packaging coatings businesses in Europe.
  • Thioplast Chemicals, Greiz, Germany, supplies liquid polysulfide polymers to U.S. and European locations of PPG's aerospace products business.
  • Wolf Container & Chemical, Sewickley, Pa., supplies clay and calcium carbonate to PPG's U.S. architectural, industrial and automotive original equipment and refinish coatings businesses, as well as the aerospace products unit.

Kathleen McGuire, PPG vice president, purchasing and distribution, praised the performance of the award-winning suppliers. "Their products, services, reliability, innovation and overall value in 2003 were outstanding," she said. "We consider them invaluable business partners who provide us a significant competitive advantage."

On an annual basis, PPG purchases about $5 billion in materials and services from thousands of suppliers.
