Business Tools | Monday July 19 CCAR Completes Comprehensive Review of S/P2 Collision Repair TrainingThe Coordinating Committee For Automotive Repair (CCAR) has completed the first annual comprehensive review of its “S/P2” online training in Safety and Pollution Prevention for the collision repair industry.A cross-section from the collision repair industry, along with government representatives, participated in a comprehensive review of CCAR’s “S/P2” online training in Safety and Pollution Prevention. The results will assist CCAR in continuing to refine and upgrade the S/P2 training. “S/P2” is CCAR’s Internet-based training to address key safety and pollution prevention issues for collision repair professionals, as well as students preparing to enter the industry. CCAR developed S/P2 in accordance with U.S. EPA and OSHA standards, which require that shop personnel – and students – be trained before entering the workplace and at least annually on safety and environmental regulations. Like the S/P2 training itself, the evaluation was conducted and tabulated online, and the reviewers represented a cross-section of collision industry interests, including:
“We are grateful to our reviewers for providing a number of refinements to the training that have already been put into place,” said Robert G. Stewart, CCAR President. “The responses gave a strong positive reaction toward recommending S/P2 to others and expanding our offering of courses under the S/P2 program.” CCAR provides S/P2 free of charge to automotive training programs (both mechanical service and collision repair) in all 50 states, and nearly 1,200 schools and more than 85,000 students currently have access to the training. Commercially, S/P2 is available for a $299 annual subscription per facility. For both businesses and schools, the S/P2 program tracks technician/student progress through the training, evaluates tests, and provides printable certificates of completion. In addition, CCAR has created a special version of S/P2 at the request of the insurance industry to train adjusters, appraisers, and other claims personnel. CCAR, a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization, also operates “CCAR-GreenLink,” the National Environmental Compliance Assistance Center for Automotive Repair, in cooperation with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).
