Business Tools | Friday October 8 3M Launches New Online Ordering Process for Distributors3M has announced the successful implementation of a new, online process for the transmission of distributor ordering information to 3M. The new process enables users of the Perfection Software System to electronically transmit purchase orders to 3M. 3M says the process will help reduce order cycle time and minimize processing errors.Orders created using the Perfection Software System are transmitted electronically to 3M using an EDI format via Management Information Systems Group, Inc. (MISG ). The improved system meets the ongoing need for increased automation and precision, and eliminates the need for phone and fax orders and time-consuming re-keying of order information. According to Peter Davis, eBusiness Manager for 3M Automotive Aftermarket Division, “The automation of our distributor’s Perfection Software-based orders will help make their ordering processes much simpler. This, and the capabilities provided through our 3M Order Center web interface, can provide a purchasing department with an efficient ordering tool, as well as the essential information they need when placing orders. This includes product availability, order status and the ability to track orders directly back to the carriers.” Perfections users can also transmit their POs via MISG to other aftermarket manufacturers who have the capability of receiving EDI transactions. “Today’s business environment requires the increased use of electronic systems," added Davis. "These systems can help automate processes for everything from order capture, to invoicing and electronic payments. This new electronic ordering system helps ease the process for our distributors and assures accuracy and quality order fulfillment.” ©2004 Collision Repair Industry INSIGHT | FEATURED
