Business Tools | Monday October 18 CCAR’s S/P2 Online Training Surpasses One Million Tests TakenIn less than two months, another milestone has been reached by the Coordinating Committee For Automotive Repair (CCAR) with the “S/P2” online training in Safety and Pollution Prevention for the automotive industry. More than 1,000,000 S/P2 tests have now been completed by technicians and students. CCAR reported on August 17, 2004, that more than 500,000 S/P2 tests had been taken, and today, Robert G. Stewart, CCAR President, has announced that the one-millionth S/P2 test was completed this week. “One million is an extraordinary number, and we are excited that so many S/P2 tests have now been taken,” said Stewart. “There are students, instructors and technicians who care about being compliant, though we know the auto industry has a long way to go. Education is the key to compliance, and once properly educated, every auto technician or student in the U.S. will become aware of how to improve the workplace reducing injury, illness and insurance costs.” CCAR developed S/P2 in accord with U.S. EPA and OSHA standards, which require shop personnel and students be trained at least annually on safety and environmental regulations. An annual industry-wide review of the S/P2 training includes representatives from independent repair businesses, instructors, OEMs, insurance companies and government agencies. S/P2 is available free of charge to automotive training programs, and more than 1,400 schools have enrolled to date. This total encompasses the General Motors ASEP and BSEP programs, DaimlerChrysler’s College Automotive Program (CAP), and the Toyota Technical Education Network (T-TEN). For shops, the business edition of S/P2 is available for a $299 annual subscription per facility. The S/P2 courseware tracks technician/student progress through the program, grades tests and is constantly updated as changes occur in federal and state laws. CCAR, a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization, also operates “CCAR-GreenLink,” the National Environmental Compliance Assistance Center for Automotive Repair, in cooperation with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). ©2004 Collision Repair Industry INSIGHT | FEATURED
