AASP-MN Announces 3rd Annual Race For Automotive Education

The 3rd Annual Race For Automotive Education is planned for January 18 & 19, 2005, at ProKart Indoor Racing, Blaine, MN. The event, sponsored by the Alliance of Automotive Service Providers, Minnesota (AASP-MN), serves as the primary fundraiser for the AASP-MN Automotive Education Foundation, which provides financial resources to support automotive students, enhance automotive programs and raise awareness of career opportunities in the automotive service industry.

Since its inception, the foundation has dispersed nearly $25,000 directly to students enrolled in automotive programs through the Association’s scholarship program, Lights On for Safety event and Skills USA competition.

AASP-MN members and other industry supporters will organize teams to compete in kart racing at speeds of up to 40 miles per hour. State-of-the-art computerized timing equipment will add a competitive edge to the total race experience. When the final checkered flag waves, the Race For Automotive Education is expected to raise well over $10,000. The majority of that money is earmarked to fund scholarships for students entering the second year of a two-year, NATEF-certified automotive program (collision or mechanical) in the state of Minnesota. Scholarship awards will be $500.00 per student, and will be distributed in the fall of 2005.

The AASP-MN Education Foundation is yet another initiative of the Association’s Workforce Task Group. The task group’s objective is to identify strategies and direct AASP-MN’s efforts to attract and retain qualified employees to the automotive service industry. The task group is made up of mechanical and collision shop representatives, industry suppliers and automotive educators.
