Arizona Autobody Repair Coalition to Monitor Insurance Steering

The Fairness for Automotive Consumers (FAC) Coalition was the force behind the passage of House Bill 2468. This bill was signed by Governor Napolitano and became law in September 2004. The anti-steering legislation prohibits Arizona automotive insurance companies from recommending consumers to specific collision repair facilities.

In an effort to monitor local insurance companies' compliance with this new law, FAC has developed a customer survey that is currently being distributed by Arizona collision repair facilities to their customers.

The survey asks customers to identify their repair facility and insurance company and addresses the following issues:

  • Did the insurance company recommend a collision repair facility?
  • If so, did they inform the consumer of his/her right to choose his/her own facility?
  • After selecting a repair facility, were any attempts made by the insurance company to alter the decision of the consumer through offers of complimentary towing, reduction in deductible or other incentives?

Surveys can be obtained by calling the FAC office at (480) 893-1222. The survey can also be downloaded from the Arizona Collision Craftsmen's Association's (ACCA) website at www.az-cca.com/benefits.htm.

FAC and the ACCA are encouraging Arizona based collision repair facilities to do their part in making sure that insurance companies are abiding by this new law to allow consumers to choose their own repair facility.

The Fairness for Automotive Consumers (FAC) is an auto body repair coalition comprised of Arizona automotive professionals and is supported by many industry associations. Their mission is to create and support legislation that is in the best interest of the consumer. FAC accomplishes this by uniting organizations involved in the Arizona collision repair industry and works closely with lobbyists and legislators.
