MQVP Supports Anti-Counterfeiting Initiatives

The Manufacturers Qualification and Validation Program (MQVP) administrators have announced their strong support of various industry initiatives to stem the growing counterfeiting problems particularly facing the automotive parts industry.

Bill Hindelang, MQVP, Inc. President, stated, “Fraudulent manufacturing and distribution practices which move counterfeit and inferior product as branded quality parts is harming both the OEM and legitimate aftermarket product manufacturers and the public. Consumers are being deceived and their vehicle values are diminished when counterfeit or non-compliant parts are substituted for use in repairs. All segments of our industry must support effective remedies against this growing illegal activity.”

“MQVP quality assurance systems have been instrumental in detecting and differentiating legitimate quality parts, identifiable through an approved chain-of-custody, from counterfeits and unauthorized deceptive products, packaging and labeling. We have and will vigorously pursue violators of MQVP intellectual property rights,” said Hindelang.

“Recent federal legislation efforts supported by the MEMA Brand Protection Council and their affiliates promise to strengthen available corrective measures,” commented John Arvay, Esq. and internal legal counsel. “Additionally, we will join with and support the Secretaries of Commerce, Homeland Security and Justice as well as the U.S. trade representative in advancing the Strategy Targeting Organized Piracy (STOP) initiative to fight counterfeiting and illegal trade. See this web site for more information: http://www.ice.gov/graphics/news/factsheets/STOP_FS100404.htm. We believe that these recent government initiatives and such activist cooperation are essential to suppress the theft of sales opportunities from rightful brand owners. MQVP, Inc. will also support and work to pass H.R.4358 short titled ‘Stop Counterfeiting in Manufactured Goods Act,' sponsored by Mr. Joe Knollenberg, Congressman from Michigan’s 9th district.

MQVP Inc., located in Rochester Hills, Michigan, is an ISO registered information systems and quality management services firm. MQVP Inc. provides supplier qualification based on current OEM and auto industry methodologies and international quality systems standards. The services include quality assurance tracking and traceability systems to members of global supply chains.
