Claypool Selected to Lead TeamUSA

SkillsUSA has selected Mark Claypool to be the overall team leader for TeamUSA 2005. Claypool is President and CEO of Mentors At Work.

In June 2005, TeamUSA will compete in the WorldSkills Competition in Helsinki, Finland. Competitions range from collision repair technology, to auto refinishing, auto service technology, cabinet making, cosmetology, culinary arts, welding, electronics technology and much more. The United States will enter six competitions.

“SkillsUSA is pleased to have Mark serve as our team leader for TeamUSA again this year,” said Tim Lawrence, Executive Director of SkillsUSA. “We know how much Mark believes in workforce development and in mentoring. He knows the WorldSkills Competition and how important it is for our team to feel confident to be competitive. That’s where his mentoring comes in,” Lawrence said. Claypool formerly served as director of development and business partnerships for SkillsUSA and served as team leader in St. Gallen, Switzerland in 2003.

“What greater honor can there be than to be chosen to represent your country in competition with the rest of the world?” asked Claypool, who will serve the two week Team Leader position as a volunteer. “These students represent the best of the best in many occupational fields, including the automotive industry. All of the skilled trades are in great need of new employees and I see TeamUSA as a way to showcase what opportunities the auto industry has for young people and what it takes to get into this field. I know SkillsUSA is seeking sponsors for the two collision repair competitors and I hope we can count on this industry to come through and make this possible.”

The Collision Industry Foundation, on behalf of SkillsUSA and the National Auto Body Council, is currently raising the money needed to send the two collision industry competitors to the 2005 World Skills event. Teresa Bolton, a Technical Specialist with ASE, is the volunteer chair of this effort. Any and all contributions are welcome.
