St. Paul Travelers Announces Executive Appointments

St. Paul Travelers has announced that Brian MacLean has been named Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer, reporting to Jay Fishman, President and Chief Executive Officer. The appointment is effective immediately.

"Brian MacLean is a seasoned executive manager, with more than 17 years' experience with our company and in several aspects of the property casualty insurance business," Fishman said. "He has successfully led our small commercial business and our overall claims operation, and he has served in a variety of senior financial management roles."

MacLean joined the company in 1988 as Director of Planning in the Corporate Finance Department. In 1993, he was appointed Chief Financial Officer for Claim, and in 1996, became Chief Financial Officer for Commercial Lines. In 1999, he was named Senior Vice President to lead Commercial Lines Select Accounts, and was promoted to Executive Vice President and appointed to lead Claim in 2002.

William H. Heyman has been promoted to the position of Vice Chairman and Chief Investment Officer, effective immediately.

"Bill Heyman is an accomplished investment executive, with an impressive career with several organizations," said Fishman. "He has very capably overseen the combination and integration of the investment assets and platforms of our predecessor companies."

Heyman joined the company in 2002, from Citigroup, where he had been Chairman of Citigroup Investments. He has responsibility for St. Paul Travelers' $65 billion of investments, including fixed income, equities, real estate and alternative investments.

Prior to joining Citigroup, Heyman held positions as a Managing Director and head of the private investment department at Salomon Brothers; the Director of the Division of Market Regulation of the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission; and a Managing Director and head of the arbitrage department of Smith Barney.
