Business Tools | Friday June 17 Evans to Leave AutoNation and Step Down as AIADA ChairmanThe American International Automobile Dealers Association (AIADA) has announced that Jim Evans Jr. will step down as Chairman effective August 15, 2005. Evans’ resignation comes in concert with a decision to leave AutoNation in order to pursue more “entrepreneurial opportunities.” Per association governance bylaws, AIADA Chairman-Elect Don Hicks will assume the chairmanship upon Evans’ departure; Vice Chairman Don Beyer will move to Chairman-Elect; and Buzz Rodland will remain Immediate Past Chairman. In the coming weeks, AIADA’s board will hold elections to fill the vacant Vice Chairman post.“We are very proud of Jim. He has been an incredible leader for us at this time,” commented AIADA President Marianne McInerney. “While we are sad to see him leave as Chairman, we are excited for him to return to his roots in the independent automotive retail industry.” In a letter to AIADA board members yesterday, Evans notified his fellow-dealers of his decision and thanked them for their backing during his tenure as Chairman. He wrote, in part: "The next few months will be a period of transition for me as I plan to exit AutoNation by mid-August to pursue more entrepreneurial opportunities... I want to assure all of you, that as I enter this next chapter, it is my hope that future projects will allow me to re-open my membership with AIADA and become re-engaged with our organization." Immediate Past Chairman Buzz Rodland will chair the nomination effort to elect a new Vice-Chair. AIADA will begin seeking nominations from board members as early as next week. Current Chairman-Elect Don Hicks, originally slated to serve as Chairman in 2006, will now serve an extended term beginning August 15, 2005 through January 2007. Meanwhile, Vice Chairman Don Beyer, by moving to the position of Chairman-Elect, will assume the Chairmanship as expected in February 2007. ©2005 Collision Repair Industry INSIGHT | FEATURED
