Kelly’s Body Shop Owner Named Business Person of the Year in Santa Ana

Kelly’s Body Shop, in Santa Ana, Calif., has announced that its owner, Benjamin G. Mendoza, was honored as Business Person of the Year for the 69th Assembly District by the California Small Business Association (CSBA). Honorable Assemblyman Tom Umberg, of the 69th Assembly District, presented Mendoza with Members Resolution No. 1743, for his exemplary record of achievements in business and community service in a ceremony at the California State Assembly on June 15, 2005, in the presence of his family.

“I selected Benjamin Mendoza for this honorable distinction based on his successful and expanding businesses and his growing involvement with the community,” stated Assemblyman Tom Umberg.

Santa Ana City Councilman Jose Solorio added, “Benjamin has clearly become a role model for current and future business leaders in Santa Ana.”

Under Mendoza’s leadership, Kelly’s Body Shop has been an outstanding corporate citizen in and around the city of Santa Ana by helping to meet the needs of the community through philanthropy, reaching many organizations, including Saddleback Community High School, Mater Dei High School, Santa Ana Pop Warner, and South West Little League.

Mendoza is one of the founding members of the South Santa Ana Merchants Association. Over the years, he has received numerous honors, including being twice selected by the South Santa Ana Merchants Association as Business Man of the Year. Mendoza was also recognized twice by the City of Santa Ana with Certificates of Recognition. In 2003, the Santa Ana Chamber of Commerce selected him as the Bronze Champion Award honoree.

Mendoza is actively involved with collision industry organizations such as Assured Performance Network, Automotive Service Association, California Autobody Association, I-CAR, and the Society of Collision Repair Specialists.

A native of Mexico, Mendoza moved to California in 1973. In 1979, Benjamin found employment at Doffo Body and Paint in Santa Ana, where he gained valuable industry experience, mastered the English language, and was promoted to the position of General Manager. In 1987, Benjamin purchased his first home in Santa Ana and soon after acquired Kelly’s Body Shop, which has become one of the most successful businesses in Santa Ana, with production and revenue almost tripling under his professional management.

“I feel particularly blessed with the opportunties that have presented themselves in the Golden State, and my wonderful family that has grown with me during this exciting period,” stated Mendoza. “I am humbled and gratified by the outstanding people, supportive and loyal group of friends, family and professional associates that have stuck by me and helped make it all possible.”

Recently, Mendoza has branched out even further by co-founding Autotex Collision Centers, one of the largest collison repair facilities in California, located in Orange.

“This is an invaluable opportunity to take my experiences to the next level while continuing to give back to my community,” added Mendoza.
