Business Tools | Tuesday October 18 AASP-MN 11th Annual Lights On For Safety Helps Hundreds of MotoristsOn Saturday, October 1st, the Alliance of Automotive Service Providers of Minnesota (AASP-MN) held its 11th annual Lights On For Safety event.AASP-MN volunteers, with help from automotive technical students, conducted a free inspection and replacement of exterior vehicle light bulbs and headlamps for the motoring public. Volunteers at 7 sites serviced nearly 350 vehicles and collected nearly 1,100 pounds of food and $1,102 for local food shelves. In addition, $3,500 in scholarships was distributed to automotive tech students who participated in the event. Minnesota State Patrol troopers were also on hand at each site to answer traffic safety-related questions. Pat Whelan, Lights On For Safety Committee Chair, stated, “This is a true, industry-wide event, bringing together automotive shop owners, managers and technicians involved in several associations with automotive students, technical colleges and industry suppliers. Overall, it sends a positive message to the general public about the professionalism and generosity of the automotive service industry.” Lights On For Safety took place at the following sites: Century College, White Bear Lake; Dunwoody College of Technology, Minneapolis; Hennepin Technical College, Brooklyn Park; Central Lakes College, Brainerd; MN DOT/State Patrol headquarters in Duluth; South Central College, North Mankato; and Minnesota State Community and Technical College, Moorhead. In addition to AASP-MN, sponsors of Lights On For Safety include: Auto Value Parts Stores, Bumper to Bumper, CARQUEST, Kunz Oil/Parts Plus, NAPA Auto Parts and Red Rooster Auto Stores. Volunteers from the Lakes Area Automotive Industry Council in Brainerd, the Northern Collision Business Association in Duluth and Fargo-Moorhead Auto Body Association also participated in the event.
