Allstate Raises $6 Million for Hurricane Katrina Relief Efforts

As the company's annual charitable contributions giving campaign comes to a close, Allstate Insurance Company together with its employees and agencies and The Allstate Foundation have now contributed more than $6 million to help the thousands of Hurricane Katrina victims rebuild their lives.

The breakdown of the contributions include:

  • 2005 Giving Campaign ($4.2 Million) - Allstate launched its annual charitable contributions campaign early this year to provide its 70,000 employees, agents and agency staff the opportunity to help the victims of Hurricane Katrina. Allstate matched dollar for dollar the donations made to the American Red Cross Hurricane Katrina Relief Fund, raising to date a total of $4.2 million.
  • Hurricane Katrina Recovery Fund ($1 Million) - The Allstate Foundation established the Hurricane Recovery Fund, donating a total of $1 million to two groups that represent the areas hardest hit by Katrina-The Greater New Orleans Foundation and the Foundation for the Mid-South.
  • College Football Field Goals and Extra Points ($380,000) - Allstate is donating $1,000 to the American Red Cross Hurricane Relief Fund for every successful field goal made by participating schools at their home and away games throughout the 2005 college football season. This donation will continue to rise as more field goals and extra points are made during the rest of the 2005 college football season.
  • The Tom Joyner Morning Show ($250,000) - Teaming up with the popular nationally syndicated radio show, Allstate will match up to $250,000 in contributions to the BlackAmericaWeb.com relief fund, which is providing support to families who are assisting those displaced by Hurricane Katrina.
  • National Council of La Raza ($25,000) - Allstate gave a $25,000 grant to The National Council of La Raza (NCLR), which will offer short-term financial assistance to affiliates faced with urgent requests.

To assist Allstate employees and agencies:

  • Allstate Family Gift Card Fund ($235,000)-To support more than 800 Allstate employees, agents, personal financial representatives and agency staff who were impacted by Hurricane Katrina, fellow Allstate employees and agencies across the country have donated more than $235,000, which is being distributed in the form of gift cards to assist with basic necessities.

Established in 1952, The Allstate Foundation is an independent, charitable organization made possible by contributions from subsidiaries of The Allstate Corporation.
