GE Motor Club Becomes MADD Gold Sponsor

In its commitment to protect families against the dangers of drunk driving, GE Motor Club will be a Gold Sponsor of Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD), whose mission is to stop drunk driving, support the victims of this violent crime, and prevent underage drinking.

In 2004, nearly 40 percent of all traffic fatalities were attributed to alcohol, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, and MADD was there to serve more than 31,000 victims/survivors.

It is this kind of support of victim/survivors that mirrors GE Motor Club’s commitment to those in need. The Club provides premier emergency roadside assistance 24/7 throughout the U.S., Canada, and Puerto Rico, with benefits that include road and towing service, lockout service, travel planning, ambulance reimbursement, emergency travel hotline, and much more.

"With our focus on driver safety and security, it made sense to team up with one of the largest organizations intent on increasing safety on our roadways," said Mamta Bhargava, auto services leader for GE Partnership Marketing Group (PMG).

GE Motor Club will direct a portion of new member enrollments to MADD. Also, a link prominently displayed on www.gemotorclub.com directs viewers to MADD's educational materials, safety tips, and personal stories.

According to a MADD/Nationwide Insurance survey conducted in 2005, 94 percent of respondents listed driving under the influence as a major highway safety problem. One of MADD’s strategic goals by 2008 is to reduce drunk driving deaths (nearly 13,000 annually) by 25 percent through many initiatives, such as advocating for maximum law enforcement, seat belt use, and support for the use and development of anti-drunk driving technology, according to Glynn R. Birch, MADD national president.

Birch concluded, "We appreciate GE Motor Club’s support of our mission because drunk driving impacts everyone and we are on a mission to save lives and prevent injuries.”

MADD is a 501 (c) (3) charity with approximately 600 offices and 2 million members and supporters nationwide. Founded in 1980, MADD has helped save more than 300,000 lives.

GE Partnership Marketing Group provides savings, security and protection solutions to consumers through its affinity marketing channels. It offers roadside assistance programs, travel & entertainment programs, legal services, and supplemental benefit insurance plans.

With more than $150 billion in assets, GE Consumer Finance, a unit of General Electric Company, is a leading provider of credit services to consumers, retailers, and auto dealers in 47 countries around the world.
