AASP of Massachusetts and Rhode Island Becomes SCRS Affiliate Association

The Society of Collision Repair Specialists (SCRS) has announced its newest affiliate association: the Alliance of Automotive Service Providers of Massachusetts and Rhode Island (AASP MA/RI).

Founded in 1999 by a coalition of state and regional organizations representing the automotive service and related industries, AASP MA/RI represents mechanical and collision repair shops in the two states, with a firm emphasis on training and education for its members. The group sought out SCRS in large part because both groups share many of the same goals.

“As a member of the Collision Industry Conference (CIC) Database Task Force, I have the opportunity to work with a number of SCRS Board Members,” said Rick Starbard, President of AASP MA/RI. “They take a proactive approach to the issues facing our industry, which made them a good fit for us. We believe that they will add another dimension to our national presence that we already currently enjoy with AASP national.”

Starbard met with SCRS Executive Director Dan Risley, and then approached the board of AASP MA/RI to discuss the possibility of affiliation. A vote in favor of the proposal soon followed. “It wasn’t a hard sell because SCRS has been around for a long time and has built an impressive record of accomplishments,” adds Starbard. “The collective experience of their members is a resource our association will be able to capitalize on as we pursue our mission of maintaining the highest possible standards of industry craftsmanship and integrity.”

“Rick’s leadership skills, coupled with that of his associates in AASP MA/RI, is a welcome addition to SCRS,” stated SCRS Executive Director Dan Risley. “More importantly, they’ll help us keep in touch with the pulse of Massachusetts as well as Rhode Island."

"We’ve worked closely with AASP national on a number of initiatives, such as the CIC Database Task Force, with productive and effective results,” commented SCRS Chairman Tom Moreland. “AASP MA/RI is a great addition to the continually growing list of SCRS affiliates. We look forward to collaborating with them as an ongoing example of ‘Working Together Is the Most Important Work We Do’.”

Through its direct members and 33 affiliate associations, SCRS is comprised of 5,000 collision repair businesses and 58,500 specialized professionals who work with consumers and insurance companies to repair collision-damaged vehicles.
