NABC Delivers Emergency Preparedness Brochure to Collision Repair Industry

The National Auto Body Council (NABC) has delivered an emergency preparedness brochure to the collision repair industry. This document, which is designed for long- term use in the repairer’s place of business, will be included as a pull out in the September issues of Body Shop Business and Auto Body Repair News (ABRN).

The piece was born out of the first-hand experience of hundreds of collision repairers who have had to face the adversity of hurricanes and other natural disasters in the recent past. It provides tips and guidelines every business owner should know in regard to emergency disaster preparation, and includes such useful tools as insurance coverage and supplies checklists, suggestions for an emergency portfolio, and a detailed agenda for an emergency preparedness meeting. In addition, it provides a photographic record and several first-person accounts of those that were assisted by their industry peers.

“We thought it was important to put a face on those who rose up from their circumstances,” said Chuck Sulkala, NABC Executive Director. “By showing the pain of the past, NABC hopes to inspire planning for the future.”

Natural disasters are a reminder that no matter how advanced society becomes it is still vulnerable to things outside of its control. The disaster preparedness brochure prepared for the collision repair industry by NABC is designed help to limit exposure to that vulnerability.

“As business owners and American citizens we need to take responsibility for the safety and well-being of our businesses, assets and employees,” added Sulkala. “It is my sincere hope that shop owners file this brochure with their insurance policies, make copies of the checklists for all their employees and sit down with them to review every item. Being prepared can mean the difference between a fast recovery and monthes, maybe years, of uncertainty.”

The project was supported and sponsored by the following NABC corporate members: AKZO Nobel Coatings, Inc., Audatex, BASF Corporation, CARSTAR, Inc., DuPont Performance Coatings, Mitchell International, Sherwin-Williams Automotive Finishes, and State Farm Insurance Company.
