Unified Collision Centers of Colorado Joins SCRS Affiliate Ranks

The Society of Collision Repair Specialists (SCRS) has announced its newest affiliate association, the Unified Collision Centers of Colorado (UCCOC). The UCCOC is a new state association, headed by Executive Director John Doremus.

“It’s getting harder for shops in our state to remain profitable, so we need all the support and information we can get,” stated Doremus. “After reading industry magazines and talking to other professionals across the country, it became clear that shops represented by a strong regional association tended to do better and were less likely to be negatively affected by outside factors. We decided to form one.”

Colorado collision repairers began to circulate the idea to other interested shop owners in the region, emphasizing that the proposed association would be proactive, seeking consensus of opinion with other repairers, initiating meaningful dialogue with insurers, and lobbying for legislation at the state level. Quality and safety of repair would also be a priority.

Several of the Colorado shop owners attended NACE 2006 where they were introduced to SCRS members by a paint supplier. The Colorado shop owners sought advice from SCRS on launching a regional association.

“SCRS was generous with their knowledge, which we really appreciated,” Doremus recalled. “They talked the nuts and bolts of making a local group happen, plus they had a good sense of reality regarding the industry, what it faced and where it needed to go. They were assertive, yet polished — a good model for what we wanted to put together.”

Newly established in December, 2006, UCCOC became an SCRS affiliate. “We think the main purpose of an association should be to get things done on behalf of its members,” added Doremus. “SCRS feels the same way, which makes them a good fit for us.”

“Our affiliation with the UCCOC is promising because its leaders are results-driven, much like we are,” stated SCRS Executive Director Dan Risley. “Their desire to provide information, education, training, and a voice to the industry, places them squarely on the right track. It’s a philosophy that dovetails perfectly with ‘Working Together is the Most Important Work We Do’.”

Through its direct members and 34 affiliate associations, SCRS is comprised of 6,000 collision repair businesses and 58,500 specialized professionals who work with consumers and insurance companies to repair collision-damaged vehicles.
