CIECA Announces New Release of XML Standards

The Collision Industry Electronic Commerce Association (CIECA) has completed and published its seventh XML Standards Release, 2007R1.

The new XML release includes messages/transactions for Vehicle Damage, Glass, Rental, and Salvage assignments, Estimates, Dispositions, Attachments (images), Parts and Materials, Repair Status, Authorizations, and Invoices and Statements.

CIECA chose XML because of its capability to exchange information in many scenarios. Popular productivity suites such as Microsoft Office use XML. XML has been so successful because it is a structured text format that is easily processed by computers, but also by humans, who can "view the source." XML thus simplifies the tasks of creating and maintaining software. As a platform-independent standard, XML was quickly supported by popular programming languages.

CIECA publishes two XML releases annually. New messages are added and existing messages are enhanced/modified as a result of the changing needs of the industry. CIECA has also published a Road Map of its XML messages, which is available on its web site, www.cieca.com.
